  • Cut the stems at an angle and remove any leaves that will be below the water line. This will ensure that leaves do not decompose in the water and contaminate it.
  • Prepare a clean vase of luke warm water with the flower food added

  • Top up with water regularly (change water after one week).
  • Keep away from draughts, fruit and radiators. The cooler the room the longer the flowers will last.
  • DO NOT use metal containers as this can neutralise the flower food.

  • Flowers can experience stress in transit but will recover after being in water for a few hours.

Carnations
These are sent out in bud, ready to open for maximum freshness and longevity. Always cut at an angle between the joints. Remove lower leaves.

Foliage
Refresh with a fine water spray.

Lilies
These are usually sent out in bud, ready to open for maximum freshness and longevity. Lily pollen can stain clothing, furniture etc. We recommend plucking out the stamens once they start to open (before the lily pollen has developed). Should pollen be allowed to develop and contaminate do not rub or wet, vacuum area or use sellotape to remove.

Mixed Bouquets
These will benefit from being stood in deep water for a few hours prior to arranging.

Roses
Postal roses need special care

PLEASE NOTE - a characteristic of these roses is a dark tinge on the petals, this occurs naturally with this variety and is not a flaw.

  • Prepare a clean vase of water with the flower food added.
  • Re-cut your roses at an angle.
  • IMPORTANT FOR POSTAL ROSES -Stand the roses in one inch of boiling water for 30 seconds then remove and place into your prepared vase. (Rose heads can droop when left out of water for a length of time, this treatment will ensure this does not happen).

For Longer life:

  • Top up with fresh water regularly.
  • Keep away from draughts, fruit and radiators.
  • The cooler the room the longer they will last, and finally....enjoy!

Oriental Orchids (cut Dendrobium Orchid flowers)
These tropical treasures will stay their loveliest when you follow the care instructions below. If your postal Oriental Orchids are wilted on arrival, simply submerge whole Orchid sprays for 10-15 mins (no longer) in cool tap water. Please untangle with extreme care, trim up to 1/2 inch off the stems at an angle and place the flowers in a clean vase of water with flower food added. These tropical flowers like to be kept warm in temperatures of 10°C/50°F and above. Do not expose to extreme cold. Faded flowers on the bottom of the stem can be removed to encourage upper buds to open. Remember to top up water daily, and finally...enjoy!

Anthurium (flamingo flower, painter's palette)
This slow growing houseplant is from Central and South America and likes ‘jungle-like conditions’! This plant likes to be kept somewhere reasonably warm and bright, but doesn’t need direct sunlight. It needs moist air to keep it’s leaves and flowers in peak condition, so mist frequently, and stand the pot on wet gravel. Don’t put this plant near anything that dries out the air such as a radiator or electrical equipment such as a TV. Keep out of draughts, and keep well watered.

Begonia
These plants are very rewarding and easy to care for. Begonia’s are tropical and subtropical natives and tend to prefer environments similar to their native habitats: Keep the plants in a warm, humid spot, in a bright position but not direct sunlight. A windowsill where light is filtered through a curtain would be perfect. Always water into the saucer the pot is resting in to prevent root rot. This plant likes to be kept damp but not wet, drain away excess water that is left in the saucer after the Begonia has had a drink, this will help prevent over watering. When the foliage of the plant starts to flag this is normally an indication that the plant needs a drink. Begonia’s would benefit from being fed with a houseplant fertilizer every 2 – 4 weeks during warmer months.
